I've been aware of the existence of the game ever since it was announced. I haven't tried to purchase it.
It's always seemed like a commercial gimmick to me. I find it ridiculous that suddenly there was so much fuss about a game from 1985, when other games from that year have been known for a long time, including Richard Hallas's excellent "Join The Jet-Set!", and when there are so many other games made in later years which are certainly (I'm saying it even though I haven't played "Willy's Great Adventure") not worse than this game commercialised by Elite Systems.
The author - Terry Lloyd - thinks "it’s one of the most complete and totally customized mods out there (in terms of all new rooms, tiles and sprites)". Well, while I couldn't deny (or confirm) that all of these elements are customised in "Willy's Great Adventure", there are various games out there listed on JSW Central which are all that and much more.
Please note I am not criticising "Willy's Great Adventure" itself. I am critising it being potrayed as something extraordinary (which people who are not familiar with other JSW remakes may buy), while it is not, because there have been many excellent JSW games made over the years (which people familiar with the subject know very well).
Also looks like that game that Matt was working on with Elite didn't happen
No, it is not. According to the article to which you gave the link:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Matthew Smith and Elite have previously announced that they are to co-operate in the development and publication of a new game. ‘Willy’s Great Adventure’ is NOT that game. A further announcement about that game will be made at a later date.
[EDIT: The above comment resulted from my misreading SedricAndCharlie's post.]
Having said all that, it would be nice to be able to play the Spectrum original of "Willy's Great Adventure". I think it is unlikely that we ever will, though, the game being a commercial product for other platforms .
