The Equalizer reacted to Spider in Manic-4-Noobs / MANIC-minor
Welcome and thanks for joining 🙂
Its nice to hear from the author directly as such and I think given you used just (more or less) manual editing rather than a bespoke editor you did really well. 😊

Would add that the layouts aren't just random tweaks but serve a purpose. With cavern 14 the main difficulty for new players is knowing where is safe to stand and wait. Not only are the safe platforms different from the danger ones but different in a speciffic way. The safe one look intact and the danger ones look damaged.
Also, the laser is cavern 19 is a real pain, time wise. It this version it's power is reduced to 25 or 50% (ICRW) plus when the final key is collected the laser vanishes making the run to the transporter easier.
Think most of the layouts also offer an alternative route to completion. So player is not always forced to confront a particularly hard bit.
Not sure how obvious the above will be to others, but they are there and they were planned, in fact the position over every single block was planned and tested.

The Equalizer got a reaction from Spider in JSW German Release
Thanks for taking the time to have a proper look at it. At least there's a difference with the inlay - it'll certainly make it easier for you to find a copy!
Â
Also, just for the record, my German doesn't extend much beyond "Ich habe eine fliege in meiner suppe". Funnily enough, I've not had much call to use the phrase much in life...

The game code block is identical to the English release, the CRC confirms this when looking at just the raw 32768 length block of code. It matches the later (proper) release of JSW, the one with the in-game tune of "If I Were a Rich Man" , whereas the early (first preproduction almost) release of JSW had the MM in-game tune of "In the Hall of the Mountain King"
Â
Its interesting the way the .tzx was saved actually as it was sampled directly from the tape without the usual tools hence when you view it in ZXE it shows as raw data rather than tapefiles themselves. :)
Â
In summary the 'difference' is limited to the actual inlay language/wording itself then, the tape 'content' is the same. :) This is not to diss it in any way, it is very much worth preserving! I would not mind one for my collection simply as is different, the same way I have a 'multiformat' Amstrad/Spectrum JSW2 tape.

I concur, similar for me but I do not currently have myself connected 24/7 (As currently I have to pay per GB) , so I tend to work offline then connect as and when I need to. Having it available and running without outbound connections being required is excellent.

Vielen Dank :)
Â
EDIT... I think the game is the same the text is too, the 'redundant' code at the end may be different but I've not had chance to look into this yet.
Â
^ Please don't make me try to remember how to post that in German! :( :D

At lease twice now. :)
Â
Creating an offline version was very kind. Thank you.
Â
Sometimes I travel and don't have internet access. I like to have quick-access games on my laptop for just such occasions.
Â
Thanks again.

Cool beans. I'm glad you're happy I shared it. It just seemed like such a random thing, I couldn't resist!

Sorry to spam with new topics but I wasn't sure if any folks had picked up on this:

I couldn't see it in the Downloads section here and nobody's posted any replies in the above thread.
Â
It's a German re-release of JSW. It doesn't seem like there's anything different about the game itself but it might be interesting to some here. :)

Thanks, Steve! Your game has now been downloaded at least once :).

Fair enough. :) There's now a link to download it, on the same page. You'll need Java to run it if you haven't already got it.

If a downloadable version was available, I would download it immediately. It

Thanks a lot. I could probably create a downloadable version quite easily, I just didn't imagine there would be any demand for it since it can be played instantly in a browser.

This is a great idea. I love what you've got so far. Do you have plans for a downloadable version in the future?

The Equalizer got a reaction from Spider in MM and JSW Playing Cards Kickstarter
Ooh, I didn't scroll all the way down. Perhaps they hope to make it if the cards are successful. It's says it's a tease but I think they may have meant it as in a teaser of what's to come.
Â
Still, they have zero backers just now so it's probably all moot now anyway...
Â
A board game could be fun, though. :)

Hi, I hope it's okay to post this here. I've been working on this game for a few months, and it's now ready for public release. It's a sort-of JSW remake, but more of a mash-up of lots of other classic Speccy games. If it proves popular, I'll be slowly adding more and more. It can be played online right here, right now: https://stevesmith16384.bitbucket.io/superspectrumworld/index.html

Here's a short video of a few screens of the game:

The Equalizer reacted to jetsetdanny in 'Manic Miner' port for the VIC-20
Kweepa has announced the completion of a port of "Manic Miner" to the 16K VIC-20. The topic is on WoS, along with a video of the game being played.
Â
I am not familiar with the VIC-20, but it looks like he did a great job! :thumbsup:Â

:) I saw that too.
Â
There is a C16 version of the same : http://jswmm.co.uk/topic/58-c16-version/
Â
I'm not greatly familiar either with the hardware differences between say the C16 / VIC-20 and the Plus/4
Â
I quickly played it, its quite hard :D , I do like a few of the effects (I tried the first build as well as the latest too) , the air bar although ti decreases in blocks it neatly and slowly colour cycles for each 'block'
Â
The sound seems quite good too all-in-all for the machine itself.
