  1. Jet-Set Willy II PC

Jet-Set Willy II, remade for Windows computers. created by Dan Richardson (code, additional graphics), Andy "loafjaw" Noble (graphics) and Matthew "4-mat" Simmonds (music)

this is quite rare to come across on the internet if you don't know where to look (which is quite a shame as it's absolutely excellent), so i've decided to put it here. this is a .7z file containing three .zip files, once again complete and unmodified.

v1.02 - "Windows Edition" - this is the version you'll be playing. a lot of the graphics from Andy Noble's JSW remake are reused here, and all of the music from that remake is reused (including the 7 unused "spare" tracks + a new track)

v1.0 - "Original Port" - this is a 100% faithful port of the original ZX Spectrum version complete with the ZX Spectrum graphics and music. not much else to say

v1.0 - "Game Builder" - this is the level editor used to create all the levels used by this remake. to use it, put it in the directory of either version (the Windows Edition or the Original Port)

from the readme file of the Windows Edition:

The original version of this game appeared on the ZX
Spectrum in 1985 and was written by Derrick P. Rowson.
It was a follow up to the original Jet Set Willy which
    was written by Matthew Smith.

This has been re-written for the PC using Blitz Basic.
All of the gameplay remains true to the original but
the graphics and sound have improved thanks to Andy
Noble and Matt Simmonds, both of whom made the original
Jet Set Willy for the PC, which can be found at

The goal is simple, you must collect all of the objects
around Willy's mansion before Maria, Willy's
housekeeper, will let you go to bed. But wait.. It
seems different form last time. It's a lot bigger! In
fact, there are now 130+ rooms to explore! Better make
good use of that "save" function.

  2. Jet-Set Willy PC

Jet-Set Willy, remade for MS-DOS/Windows/MacOS computers. created by Andy "loafjaw" Noble (code, graphics), Matthew "4-mat" Simmonds (music) and John Dow (testing, MacOS version)

gee, this was long overdue : p  this is a .7z file containing two .zip files and a .dmg file, complete and unmodified. this also includes the readme .txt files for each of them (which is a requirement for distribution) along with a .txt file containing the cheat code for the Windows version, and a .rar file containing all the music the game uses, organized and saved as individual .xm files

v0.991 - MS-DOS - the MS-DOS version. requires a PC running MS-DOS (or an OS compatible with MS-DOS executables), but an emulator for modern PCs (like DOSBox) will do. also, make sure to run the .exe with "-fs" to force the sound configuration and set the sound quality to "Very high" or the music will sound cheap and oily

v0.76 - Windows - functionally the same as the MS-DOS version but with some new options in the options menu (like the ability to set the scale of the game window and a little jukebox allowing you to cycle through all of the game's music + the music from the older versions of the game like the Atari XL and the Amstrad CPC) and a different cheat code, and it can be run natively on modern Windows PCs : p

v0.62 - MacOS - ditto. not compatible with MacOS Catalina and later due to 32-bit executables not being supported

the screenshots above were taken with the Windows version of the game running on a 64-bit PC

unlike the file for Manic Miner PC there's no source code or graphics/sound effects. the data.dat file used in the Windows version can be opened with the Allegro grabber tool if you know the password it's encrypted with but out of respect for Andy i won't put it out there, sorry

Ah, I was mistaken 🙂 My previous cheats were for the DOS version not the Windows one, further back in this very topic here

that's the cheat code for manic miner PC, not JSW PC

i got the JSW PC cheat code from andy noble after i emailed him asking about it (same email where i asked about that weird PC version-mobile version mix), then i sent him a follow-up email asking about the code for the DOS version but he never responded (he might probably be busy with a whole lot of stuff)

(opening the executable in a text file didn't find anything by the way, i'm pretty sure it has to be completely dissassembled in order to find any sort of type-in cheat)

  4. for andy noble's jet-set willy pc (the windows re-release):

type 241360 under the stairs in the first landing and then exit the current game and go to the options screen from the main menu

you'll find two new options there (f9 for invulnerability and f10 for infinite lives)

this unfortunately does not work for the original MS-DOS release, so i might just have to open the game's executable file (which contains literally every piece of data that isn't the music) in a text editor and look around for a potential type-in cheat like a maniac

The PC version was created by Andy Noble and, from being all over the Internet in the early Noughties, there's precious little trace of it to be found now.

I wrote a review of it for the EUG magazine back in the day, which can be found here:

i ripped the music from this version (the MS-DOS version, not the windows re-release) some few weeks ago

it turns out that JSW-DAT2.DAT is actually an .xm (extended module) file in disguise containing every single song in the game, which i then cut up into individual files (like 33 total songs including 7 unused ones and 2 from craig r.'s jsw remake which were uncut versions of 2 in-game songs)

    here:

    JSW_PC.rar

  6. since dan richardson's excellent remake of JSW II for windows (not the one for MS-DOS which is the first result that comes up when you search "dan richardson jet set willy") is ludicrously hard to find on the internet, i've decided to post the link to it here:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20160418030331/http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dan_richardson_uk/JSWII.html

    enjoy!

(i was actually going to reply with this link to a topic by somebody who asked about this remake, but it was from 2018 and i didn't really want to bump a really old topic like that since it's frowned upon in other forums in general)

Yes that is worthwhile. I am actually waiting for perms on something else before I put it here even though its in a couple of other places, because the author is around other forums (afaik) but not here so I wanted to see.

oh, wow. what's that "something else", if you don't mind me asking?

i know i've been commenting on this thread a bit too much but i managed to rip most of the guardian/tile sprites from this version by mucking around with a winUAE savestate on maptapper

here (note: willy's sprites weirdly don't match up with his sprites that are used in-game but everything else is completely accurate, i hope)

P.S. are there any savestates of the sewer/space areas out there, i wonder? the savestate i ripped from was taken in the first area and thus doesn't have every single guardian in the game

I was looking for this map of a JSW remake (I THINK for mobile) and finally I found it on one of my drives. I've got to say, I normally hate it when these games are remade with modern graphics, but the artist did such a good job with the decor, colour schemes and atmosphere that I just love looking at it. Does anyone know if this game is available anywhere or what it might be called? Gaze upon it, a thing of beauty!

a pretty cool thing i've noticed while looking closer at this map (at least the one on the maps topic) is that the graphics are unusually crisp for being downsized by 50%, almost like whoever made it manually painted over the downsized result (which must have taken an awful lot of time)

anyhow, i'd like to say that manic miner also got a similar treatment (graphics upscaled by 2x with a whole lot of colors, no background tiles though), here's a download link: https://muckypaws.com/2015/06/07/manic-miner-reloaded-and-updated/

oh yeah, how did you get to the unused room? ("]") i'm assuming you made this map up out of screenshots of the game that you took as you went, but i'm not quite sure how you got to THAT room with that approach

EDIT: i thought for a hot 15 minutes that you made this map yourself. i'm an idiot lol

EDIT 2: never mind all that, i just found the original source of the map while poking around on tineye; http://web.archive.org/web/20130512040044/http://209.85.117.199/1250/55/0/p401311/jswpretty.jpg

A .jar file is basically an archive. You can open this with something like WinRAR. Inside that, the files ti.dat and ov.dat are just renamed .png files. The author simply disguised the files rather than encrypting any data.

the guardian sprites are weirdly nowhere to be found in the .jar file itself (and if they are they're probably compressed to hell), but that's okay since kemulator memory view helped me with ripping those

here's a sprite sheet i made like 2 or 3 days ago (they look gorgeous, don't they?)

Here's a video of the JSW remake I'm looking for. Just a brief showcase of the ending.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIMbiurj8ak

Sadly, there's no way of contacting the channel owner to ask him if he knows the name of it. And of course, comments are turned off > _ >

It's a pity because the way the background graphics are done perfectly fills in the details of how I imagined the JSW mansion to actually be. They even thought to include glass tiles around the orangery and banyan tree, to show that part of the house as a greenhouse.

the uploader of this video is andy noble (MM PC and JSW PC creator)

i emailed him about it a week ago and he responded with this:

"Yes, that's pretty much what that version was. I just used the graphics from the mobile version and used Matts music but rewrote the engine. It never got released as the guy who holds the copyright never returned any correspondence. Paul, who did the graphics, was happy for me to use them but didn't have the right to sign it off."

    so, to clear things up;

the java mobile remake was made by numfum gmbh (the lovely graphics were drawn by paul vera-broadbent)

the JSW version shown in the linked video is a mix of the java version and the PC remake, created by andy noble (which went unreleased due to weird copyright crap, and i'm pretty sure the ending graphics shown in the video aren't in the java version)

anyway hi i've been lurking here for a bit and i just decided to join this site today, i'll post here again when i have cool stuff to show
