Spider
Interesting example. :) As mentioned I did have a very vague "plan" to do this at some future point but given the FaceBook detail (I only had the email I've not logged in) I decided I would wait to see how it turned out. I would like to use PGD to create some JSW/MM type games eventually, that is part of the reason I purchased it :) Along with SEUD last year although my JSW/MM plans for that are best forgotten! Norman Sword
wrote a stack copy version and wondered why it was so slow. Checked the code, and noticed I was redrawing everything on every loop. (it was a test file)With the stack copy the game is viable in this format. Spider
The stack version is a lot better I think. I do recall (unless I'm mistaken) there was at least one JSW and one MM 'fast' version where a lot of LDI's were replaced with other code, resulting in a speed increase. Norman Sword
Updated to the 3rd method. (with the other 2)Was not happy with the speed. So decided to use stack copy with a sprite screen save routine. E.g. The sprite draws on the screen and at the same time saves the background it writes to. Doing this removes one of the long and slow stack copy routines.100% this is easily fast enough to do perils of willy. Spider
Spider
The speed increase is relatively substantial, moreso when compared directly between the first and third file. Concur with you its fast enough like that. I only wish JSW would run at that speed! , I tend to play it at about 120% to 130% usually as that I find is a sensible compromise with it not being too fast for tight manoeuvres but at the same time not being too sluggish. jetsetdanny
Spider
I thought I'd do a combi 'gridded' pic of MM/PGD/JSW just to have them side-by-side as such. I thought about Perils as well but given the resolution differences... jetsetdanny
jetsetdanny
There was actually a post on Facebook a few days ago in the "Central Cavern" group: A Spectrum version of this is in progress by one of the groups members: Possibly using PGD (not sure, I'm speculating on this part) however I do not have any more details on it just yet aside from an 'in progress / so far' type screenshot: http://jswmm.co.uk/public/style_images/master/attachicon.gifperils_zx.png Viewing said group may yield more information for those interested in keeping up to date with progress on this potentially exciting project. It may well fix some of the small issues present in the original Vic version without destroying the original gameplay too. I'm relatively confident on what I have seen so far though it will be a good port/conversion. :) There is a YouTube video of a person playing a 5-room demo of this project and some discussion about it on Spectrum Computing. It's good to know it's progressing! IRF and Spider
Spider
Yes I saw the post of S.C too. :) It was on my eventual todo list at a future point although I'm very pleased someone else has taken up the challenge as to be 100% realistic it would be a year at least before I could even think about it, and I'd probably do it multiplatform too if I had to. One thing I do remember (well, I think I do) B.I.T.D as such, I remember seeing the adverts for this game and wondered why there was no ZX version. Thinking back there were no screenshots either on the inlay! Having played it I was not that surprised. On a more positive note I looked briefly at the YT video of the remake and the graphical issues are much improved. I do think even 'back then' though a bit more could of possibly been done on the Vic with regard to the graphics, but I'm not sure on that. jetsetdanny
The dropbox download is dead. A reupload, please! :) . Or, as I suspect might be the case, an upload of a new version ;) . Spider
