MtM
Just wondered was there no celebratory thread about JSW being 40 years old this year? I didn't have time to check the forum much a few months ago, just wondered if I missed some kind of celebration about it? 40 years is a long time for any game to have a playable lifetime, I know there are plenty of other classics from 40 years ago, not sure if there are any that are still being developed using the same engine etc, JSW maybe unique in that respect? Sure I will be proven wrong! Spider
Spider
I did have a special (sort of) JSW game in the works since perhaps April / May / June this year but had a bitlocker accident and lost the later builds, I do have an earlier build but no notes to go with it. I had planned on (you've maybe seen on Spectrum Computing a year or so ago) the comparisions between platforms, I had thoughts of doing this with JSW too, only 'officially' released versions as such. There's still a bit of time 😉 🙂 MtM
MtM
Yes it must happen Andy! Would be great to see it - can never have enough versions of JSW! Edited November 11 by MtM Spider

EDIT... Full complete 'ready' version recovered! 😮
Jet Set Willie
Congratulations for such a finding! 😃🙂 On 11/11/2024 at 12:07 AM, MtM said: not sure if there are any that are still being developed using the same engine etc Boulder Dash on Commodore 64 perhaps? There are hundreds (at least) of homemade versions available on internet. I haven´t checked though when the last ones have been made. Excellent suggestion that Jet Set Willie, and one I ought to have thought of myself. I wonder if there are any others, struggling for any more to come to mind. Thanks for the correction! Makes me think perhaps Lode Runner too on the c64, but that had a built in level designer, not sure if anyone is still actively making levels for it, maybe it counts. Jet Set Willie
For any other games, I can think just few what are probably 🤔 written from the scratch, being updated "arcade versions" or clones with somewhat similar type graphics and game logic. There may be just one "arcade version" game, instead of few or several. These will include Commodore 64 "arcade versions" of Bombjack and Ghosts ´n´ Goblins. On Colecovision there is such version of Donkey Kong and Pac-man. There might be more such "arcade" games on Colecovision now, I haven´t readed the news for any machines for years now, expect few. Some Commodore 64 games have got a homebrew sequel, like Frantic Freddie. For MSX there are few Nemesis/Gradius clones or updates. I think one game was Nemesis/Gradius engine with arcade graphics update. On Atari 2600 there are games what have many altered graphics versions, like Pac-Man. Please check Atariage, you will find other 2600 games, too, with altered graphics.
