Thanks for pointing those out Danny .. dead giveaway that i never ran it thru a spellcheck before posting!

I agree it's Easter egg as Easter is an entity in itself, by the same token one would write Christmas tree, only the event is capitalised as whatever follows it is usually a noun (except Easter Sunday) or something like that...

[EDIT: These may have been corrected already, I wrote my comments referring to a version which I downloaded from this page, but I can't see it here now; there were also Ian's comments which I can't see at the moment]

    Some suggestions for spelling corrections:

One more tiny suggestion for a tweak to the game file - in the scrolling message on the Title Screen, the use of the hyphen in the word 'Jet-Set' is inconsistent with the lettering on the Title Screen, and general usage.

I believe that for consistency, it would be best to use 'Jet Set' (with a space character replacing the hyphen).

Incidentally Andy, I would make the same recommendation for the banner at the top of this website (in that case, 'Jet Set' instead of 'JetSet'), although that's probably too much of a faff to change, so it's probably not worth worrying about too much. :)

If I were you, I would advertise it on the MM/JSW Yahoo! Group in any case, since it's a forum dedicated entirely to these games, so only fans read it, I guess, and they should be interested in all developments on the scene.

I'm not equally sure about WoS, I think there is some interest in JSW and MM games there, but there may also be people who want to see "new" things rather than tweaked versions of these two particular classics or games made using their game engines.

As for the keypad entry code, while my strong personal preference in new games using the JSW48 game engine is to have it removed completely, in your project (which after all is a variant of the original "JSW", so to speak, it doesn't pretend to be a brand new game) I think it works very well, preserving the flavour of the original while at the same time not forcing people to worry about the colour code as such  :) .

Thanks for taking the time to read through all the blurb Ian, looks like there's quite a few more corrections to be made .. including my dodgy spelling .. that happened because i copied it from a Word doc to a plain text and then added that bit on afterwards putting my trust in my own spelling ability...

I had my suspicions when referred to Matthew Smith almost like he knew him personally, there seems to be more than the occasional 'first name terms' hint .. if you get what i mean .. and of course if you're any good at anagrams...

he never did get back to me by the way

I've just watched the end sequence after completing the game (I cheated and did POKE 34270, 255 so I only had to collect the Bathroom tap).

Very nice effect after the clock reaches midnight! Just one little suggestion, if you're open to a final tweak - you could colour the top half of the 'victim' Cyan in this instance, to match their previous appearance? (I hope that doesn't provide too much of a spoiler?). It's no biggie though.

Also, the Screen Flash effect looks good when it kicks in as Willy collects the last item.  I wonder if it would be worth mentioning this in the readme, in a cryptic way?  Something along the lines of "a special effect that is implemented via a bit of code which Matthew Smith devised for Manic Miner, and which remained in place (still functioning but unused) in the original JSW code".

Thanks ANdy, I think i'll leave things as they are then, at least until Ian gets a chance to look at it as he had quite a lot of input into the game, if the credits for his work need amending in any way or if Richard needs me to change anything then i will amend as necessary. If there are no other changes then i will edit it if/when i post it on any other sites

:) Danny is correct regarding the 2015 Bug Fixed Edition erm "authorship" (for want of a better word!)

However I have absolutely no objections at all for it to stay 'as is' or be changed, I do not mind either. :) Honest.

Thanks for the feedback guys and thanks Danny for taking the time to look through all the files, playtest the games and read the blurb, I will certainly make the changes that you have suggested if i do decide to release it elsewhere, i'll correct the part about Andy making the 2015 bugfixed version and the JSWED and John Elliott's 'As You Were' fix anyway
Apart from the one i recorded which i will confess i never played it back to see if it worked properly this is the first time i have watched an RZX of the game being played all the way through with the 'jagged finger' fix in place, has to be up there with the best 'fix' since the Attic bug correction  .
With regards to posting it in WOS and other sites, TBH not quite sure if my edition is really going to generate that much interest if posted elsewhere, it looks too 'normal' if that makes sense, folk might be expecting some sort of 'mystery alternative version' that Matthew Smith might have been working on but somehow never released, if i do post it out there i might need to make a modification to the keypad entry or to remove it or even restore it completely so they would have to enter a code or poke the game to play it, as folk may question as to the point in having it if it doesn't function as it should ..  maybe i am just overthinking it...

Metalmickey, I have now got acquainted with the rest of the "JSW AMI REV5" package, i.e. I've read the Readme and I've watched your two RZX walkthroughs of the two versions of the game.

It's cool that you have included "Willy's altered house", with its new rooms, in the package  :) .

Yesterday I just grabbed the principal TAP file and recorded my playtest since I had some time I could spare for it, without looking at the rest of the contents of the ZIP. It turns out it was unnecessary, really, since you had already playtested and recorded the game. In any case, it was a pleasure for me to play JSW AMI REV5, and the game is (at least) "doubly tested" now  :) .

Today I've read the Readme with interest. Thanks for the credits! I really enjoyed your "initial remarks", your detailed descriptions of the changes applied in relation to the original game and your "closing remarks" about the progress of computer science and people of good will  :) .

If I can suggest something (since you say "feel free to provide feedback"), the following points caught my attention:

    - You say, "In 2015 the JSWMM community created the

Congratulations, Metalmickey, on completing (I assume?) the project!  :)

I have playtested it to completion and did not find any problems. The game is completable without loss of life. I have managed to reach the toilet at 9.16 am, which would correspond to 8.08 am if the clock was not accelerated.

I like the new rooms (I've certainly said it before) and I think they fit in well with the original ones :) . I also like the flash effect after the last item has been collected, and the new special effect at the very end of the game :), whose nature I will not reveal here in order not to spoil it for the others, because I think it hasn't been revealed yet.

I haven't had a look at the Readme yet, I'll do it tonight.

And here's my RZX recording of the playtest:

I've only (as I write this) had a quick look at the new version and very much 'skim read' the text file again, although what I see I like very much. :) :) I'll be taking a 'proper' look over the weekend.

You can use contended memory for storage as long as its not time critical. :) It just means those memory 'read/write' have to "wait their turn" as the ULA will have priority over the processor.

This mainly why things like high-speed loaders and screen 'effects' (special effects not LDIR'ing colour changes etc) usually live at an address > 32767

This is why things like the 'main loop' are not in contended memory. But you could use it for anything else really like object counters or routines. It may be worth trying the effects of it at

Random note: Spin allows you to disable this, if 'testing' ensure its enabled so it behaves like a real machine. Tools > Options > Hardware > Emulation > 'Memory Contention' , I do not see this option in Spectaculator but I did not search too closely.

The effects can differ I think between a 48K (or 16K!) machine and one of the 128's too, but I'm not 100% sure on this fact.

I put this code into my AMI version and playtested to completion, i can confirm that there is no (visible) red flickering what i noticed and indeed there is a very big improvement in Willy's animation, particularly in very bright rooms like The Front Door and Entrance to Hades.
