  1. anyways ... onto my project .. my thoughts turn to the idea of trying to make the game upgradable - currently the 'unused' area that i have filled with code that deals with the completion and time out sequences was - i recently discovered - intended for more graphics - so when using JSWED to upgrade to 128K it all goes a bit pear shaped. It's clearly much more optimisable, there would surely not be a need for three separate routines with the foot coming down .. i have been working on trying to introduce routines that make this area more efficient ... a work in progress......
  2. see i think the shopkeeper was in on it .. something to do with claiming back the tax ... that might have been an unreleased episode...?
  3. Hi, just spotted this, somewhat late in the day... not sure what i can bring to the table, my main reason for making contributions to this site was down to an idea of what the original JSW would have looked like with all of the bugs fixed and what the remaining four rooms might have looked like were they not overwritten by the DOS code .. when doing the 'As Manufacturer Intended' project i really only wanted to make the bare minimal alterations just to ensure playability and perhaps completability (is that a word??) without life loss, so looking at Conservatory Roof i wanted to retain all four fire cells and perhaps one or two additional additions to the green area to ensure the items can be collected but at least some element of challenge in there ... of as well as colouring in the conveyor Having looked at the RZX i'm super impressed at the development of this game .. Norman Sword has commented that an ASM is available on this site somewhere .. as someone who is still learning assembly i'd be keen to know where i can find it ... in short, excellent work to all those involved!!

Can't believe i've only just spotted this. I've made a fair few contributions over the years although I never met him. Sad news indeed 😞
  5. Saw that your site was down a while back and just thought you'd had enough but then saw it back up again so i thought i'd set about trying to restore my files following an episode of me being an idiot and dropping my laptop (yes powered on at the time) down the stairs .. from the Top Landing ... (insert facepalm here) Anyways, i've decided to work on a version 6 and implement IRF's Mr Benn style toilet dash amongst some other refinements... think i need to go back and have a good read of this thread
  6. Evening all, thought i'd pick up where i left off now i've got my files back ... now where was i....?
  7. Great stuff, welcome back, took a bit of a break myself, hope to resume contributing again soon
  8. I would imagine this would be done by means of some sort of spreadsheet with hyperlinks to a reliable source such as WOS or TZX archive and perhaps the relevant POKE to make it your starting room if appropriate (assuming Willy isn't left in mid air if said POKE was applied) ... it would involve plenty of work, likelihood is that the list of rooms would run into the thousands by now given the number of iterations out there currently
  9. I do recall reading an article in CRASH! magazine way back then, it did indeed mention about the 10 minute wait bug and i did attempt to try it out so i left Daley waiting just before the finish line and went off to so something else, unfortunately my mother thought i had just got bored with the computer and reclaimed use of the TV for the rest of the day .... :( It wasn't until i rediscovered ol' rubberkeys a few years back when i decided to have another go at it but the version i had has a seconds counter that runs up to 500 seconds and then Daley then gets a foul .. maybe i'll have a look on WOS later
  10. maybe i could invent a machine to make seven copies of myself and practise jumping over a giant possessed moving saw
  11. alas no Danny, but had the lottery been around at the time and if was old enough to play it i would perhaps have considered it ... and maybe even attempt to recreate a life-size version of Willy's Mansion and surrounding grounds ... probably wouldn't go as far as building a boobytrapped attic though....
  12. see i always used to think that was a myth as when i tried it with my copy it would time out after 10 minutes and i would lose a life, i must have had a later revision of the game...
  13. ok confession time (hands outstretched awaiting the handcuffs...) i actually copied out the entire codesheet using numbers for the colours and my mother's typewriter to re-create the colour chart, it took, to the best of my recollection, about 24 attempts to complete and an awful lot of tolerance from my mother putting up with the continuous 'clacking' of keys as i punched away at the keys, needless to say she did not thank me for wearing out her ribbon... on the plus side i did manage to make a photocopy - friendly version which i managed to sell for 50p a sheet ... i think i made about
  14. Liking that, i think that's well worth putting into the next version, i've got quite a few corrections to work on... i have little doubt that if MS had the time and inclination to alter willy's animation he would have done something similar
  15. All very well but did Mr Thompson finish his 100 metre dash in time?
  16. think i know what the problem is, i'm using my own modified version of JSW where i fixed the conveyors by putting in the modified code in an alternative location to where Skoolkid originally suggested .. think i might need to relocate it elsewhere
  17. i guess i could start again with a new theme "Jet Set Willy at the Overlook Hotel" .. maybe i'll have it completed by Halloween next year...
  18. Well one of the reasons as to why my 256 room project has been all but abandoned shelved is because i didn't begin any sort of play-testing until i was about 120 or so rooms in, then when loading it into various emulators that i have at my disposal the game loads ok but after pressing Enter to start it just crashes and resets .. i'm currently waiting on delivery of a 128+3 so i am going to try it out on that when it arrives...
  19. Has anyone had any problems playtesting any of their edited games after using the 128k conversion tool?
  20. Thanks, to be honest the main reason for this is because I have a sizeable collection of MS DOS games that I have installed over the last 27 years but don't have the original disks any more. I also have a couple of MS DOS based emulators which don't seem to work on newer machines or at least not on newer machines that have never had DOS installed on them .. needless to say I am not actually using the original hard disk any more, mainly because it's capacity is only 30MB...
  21. There seems to be a significant difference between a desktop PC and a laptop. Using Norman's program on my laptop i can get it to register up to 8 simultaneous keys on any given row using Spectaculator 8.0, i had the same results with FUSE and SPIN, when i connect a USB keyboard i can only get about 4, however because it's a wireless one i can probably understand why. owing to the fact that my little rubber-keyed friend is on loan at present i have not yet been able to try it out on a real spectrum My theory is that laptops the ZX Spectrum have one thing in common and that is their keyboards are connected to the motherboard via a multi-way membrane as opposed to a 5 pin PS2 connector or in the case of the modern PC a single data channel (2 if you count data coming out of the system) pressing combinations of keys across the rows such as QW and GH also work but not in every case for example IO and DE won't work, only 3 of the four keys will register
  22. In my 256 room version i was trying to think of a name for room 237 ... but at that point i just seemed to have run out of ideas ... wonder if i have .. err ... Overlooked something...?
  23. i have a rather ageing yet somehow still functioning system which has Windows 10 installed upon it and i have managed to get both versions of JSWED working, currently i am using 2.3.7 .. having said that it is rather buggy and lags here and there, rolling my mouse wheel has some peculiar effects . However, this may be because i have, to the best of my recollection only ever upgraded my operating systems rather than installing a new ones and when the computer needed an upgrade i just swap out the HDD, To this day my HDD label is still MSDOS 5... So it could be that there's some ancient file knocking about somewhere that JSWED relies upon Another theory is that up until last year i did have a copy of 'The Shining' in my DVD drive for ages... ;)
