I actually spent ages trying to fix that in my version, until I realised it was possible in the Speccy original šŸ¤£Ā It made me quite happy to see that Iā€™d managed to replicate the mechanics so well!
The Moonlight Sonata tune that plays over the intro / room tour was ripped from the C64 version of JSW, and I adjusted the instruments slightly to make it sound more atmospheric. I was quite pleased with the way it turned out šŸ‘ (from memory I think that music plays over the new ending I added too, featuring Maria šŸ˜‰)

Next time Iā€™m on my dev laptop I will give it a more thorough play šŸ‘
Iā€™ll definitely try out the level designer too, it would be awesome to be able to contribute!

Thanks @Toki for trying it!Ā I hope you like the Impossible Mission part as well (better try it on desktopĀ šŸ˜‰ ) and except for the first cavern that's always the same everything else is shuffled by the map generator that also changes the exit doors.
But yes although it looks like it's playable on phone (the Manic Miner part works) a few things are not yet supported on mobile (e.g. Imp. Mission puzzles).
I'd love to see you guys creating a cavern (or two) with the Level Editor so that I can finally gather enough caverns to unlock the "Community created levels" option (custom rooms made by other contributors instead of the usual official ones) in that case the randomnessĀ of a map will be high enough to always play a very different game every time šŸ’›

I just had a little go at this on my phone, itā€™s awesome! Very cool idea.
The graphics in the first cavern are a REALLY nice recreation of The Final Barrier šŸ‘Œ

    Welcome @Toki!
Very niceĀ work, especially on music! I loved theĀ MoonlightĀ Sonata during the demo (cool bass part šŸ‘Œ)
Also thanks for fixing the piano keyboard octaves display on title screen.
While playing in Eugene's lair this happened (maybe it was also in the original c64? I remember there were a couple bugs about wall collisions)

    Yes, on the Spectrum too.
On the Spectrum, there is actually a whole array of weird aspects of the game mechanics (even more in JSW than in MM) that have come to be known as "quirky features". These have to do with they way Willy jumps (e.g.Ā jumping into Earth cells which you have experienced; a jump through the so-called Innocent Looking Block is even more spectacular, as it takes Willy to the room below), with ramps (i.e. invalid ramps), ropes, and various other elements. Andrew Broad once wanted to write an "Advanced MM/JSW Trainer"Ā to make the player familiar with these featuresĀ (unfortunately, the project hasn't been completed so far).

šŸ‘€ Really?Ā on Spectrum too? Wow I always thought it was Lancaster's fault.
Now I'm curious to try that walls layout onĀ my engine (Manic Mission) although I worked on it to make walls as walls, they're solidĀ šŸ˜…Ā (still curious, I'm trying it)
    Update: Nope

    Ah, glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, the original C64 version was perfectly ok, but for me was a little disappointing (especially the music!!) and there were just a good few annoyances that it didnā€™t play / look the same as the Spectrum version.
I started my version with the intent of just fixing a few bits here and there, but it just grew into a huge overhaul.
I would love to do the same with C64 JSW, but I think that would be far too much to take on!!

Welcome to the forums Toki! You are most welcome indeed!

As a regular browser of csbd.dk I am not quite sure how I have managed to miss this, unless I have simply
forgotten about it. It is excellent, just been playing it on vice. Very accurate it appears gameplay wise,
excellent music too, it does have the charm of the original ZX version, and is much better than the official
original port of MM on the C64, which is okay, but not in this league. Thank you!

Ah, there should be a .d64 file to download on the page also? Thatā€™s a C64 disk image.
The .sid file is just the music I believe.
Let me know if you have any more trouble and Iā€™ll post a Dropbox link to a zip instead.
I love this website btw, Iā€™m such a massive geek for MM and JSW. Iā€™ve been learning Z80 assembly recently and have been studying the Speccy MM source codeā€¦ Itā€™s so great to see and understand the workings of that game I have been addicted to for 40 years!! šŸ¤£

Hey there, Iā€™m not sure if it has been mentioned on these forums before or not, but I made a deluxe version of Manic Miner for the Commodore 64 a couple of years ago.
It included quite a few improvements and fixes, and I put a lot of effort into it to ensure it matched the original Speccy version as closely as possible.
You can download it from the following linkā€¦ The game also lets you choose between the C64 original or my deluxe version.
    Enjoy!
