Metalmickey
Admittedly it was a tough act to follow and the person in charge of making Willy's third adventure had his work cut out but personally i think Rowson did a great job. With faster and smoother animation, none of the bugs, all the original rooms included and, with the exception of a change in colour scheme here and there, almost identical to the original layout plus a plethora of additional rooms, a space ship and even the moon JSW 2 is surely far superior to the original and i spent considerably longer playing it for these reasons. But there's many who would disagree with me, Crash! Magazine only gave it a luke warm review scoring much lower than i expected. Perhaps ii's a nostalgia thing, perhaps it's a 'warts and all' thing with the original JSW being favoured for it's imperfections and odd quirks. Perhaps the attic bug helped in some small way to increase it's poularity with people playing it more to see what the fuss was about. Certainly when i first got my hands on a copy i hadn't heard of the gremlin in the attic and genuinely thought it was a forbidden room (the technicoloured caterpillar with a pacman head did seem a bit trippy but then 1984 was the era of breakdancing). But have i missed something else? Happy to discuss... Spider
jetsetdanny
I agree that Rowson did a great job. I enjoyed exploring and struggling to complete "JSW II" immensely back in the days of the real Spectrum :) .
Spider
Welcome. :) From what I can remember we called the 'Attic Bug' the 'Bad Program' bug back then. We did not realise it was actually caused by visiting the Attic as such, just that after playing a few games it would do it 'at random' it seemed. The game 'engine' in JSW2 is quite different and relies on compression a lot. There are some other changes, one is quite annoying: If you stand on the edge of a platform (as far as you can) then hold jump and press left/right, Willy will fall he will not jump as per JSW1. This can make screens such as Priest's Hole a bit tricky as its a timing issue with said screen. We do have *something very interesting* JSW2 wise 'in the works' here within the contributor group however although its about 90% complete I need to disassemble JSW2 to fix a few small things before we can present it. I do think you will like it however. :) Metalmickey
Spider
We've not had time to do much with this just yet unfortunately. I can tell you that the contributor group does now have a working 'beta' of our project of this however. It does have some issues* to be worked out before it can be released however. * The game is playable and completable 'as is' but the issues are potentially quite a concern. Spider
Cool, is there a download link so i can test it out? :) Not just yet. There will be soon though but I have slightly limited online time at the moment so it may be a couple of weeks (unfortunately) Well in all the 32 years of it's existence and having poked it to within an inch of it's life this jumping 'technique' is probably the one thing that never occurred to me .. probably explains why never completed it I use it quite a lot so I tend to fall from platforms (East Wall etc) quite a lot :( :D Metalmickey and jetsetdanny
