Cbm64 Version

Spider

Recommended Posts

This looks and plays almost identical to the Spectrum version. Miner Willy does have some kind of almost 'floaty' jump however but he's quite controllable.

Title screen and "keyboard" tune are the same:

As is the "!Boot" ;)

On with the levels. :) The only things I immediately noted was "Return of the alien kong beast" does not have a nasty on the far right compared to other screens and the text is all in capitals.

Hey there, I’m not sure if it has been mentioned on these forums before or not, but I made a deluxe version of Manic Miner for the Commodore 64 a couple of years ago.

It included quite a few improvements and fixes, and I put a lot of effort into it to ensure it matched the original Speccy version as closely as possible.

You can download it from the following link… The game also lets you choose between the C64 original or my deluxe version.

Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, Toki! 🙂

Thanks for creating the deluxe version of Manic Miner for the Commodore 64 and for letting us know about it 👍

I've just tried downloading it in the link you've provided, using Google Chrome, but got a message "MM64DX.d64 is dangerous, so Chrome has blocked it". Irritatingly, I can only press the "Discard" bottom there, there is no option to keep the file anyway.

Update: Edge, however, seems to have downloaded it OK. What's wrong with Chrome?

Ah, there should be a .d64 file to download on the page also? That’s a C64 disk image.

The .sid file is just the music I believe.

Let me know if you have any more trouble and I’ll post a Dropbox link to a zip instead.

I love this website btw, I’m such a massive geek for MM and JSW. I’ve been learning Z80 assembly recently and have been studying the Speccy MM source code… It’s so great to see and understand the workings of that game I have been addicted to for 40 years!! 🤣

Welcome to the forums Toki! You are most welcome indeed!

As a regular browser of csbd.dk I am not quite sure how I have managed to miss this, unless I have simply

forgotten about it. It is excellent, just been playing it on vice. Very accurate it appears gameplay wise,

excellent music too, it does have the charm of the original ZX version, and is much better than the official

original port of MM on the C64, which is okay, but not in this league. Thank you!

Ah, glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, the original C64 version was perfectly ok, but for me was a little disappointing (especially the music!!) and there were just a good few annoyances that it didn’t play / look the same as the Spectrum version.

I started my version with the intent of just fixing a few bits here and there, but it just grew into a huge overhaul.

I would love to do the same with C64 JSW, but I think that would be far too much to take on!!

I think I've seen a few 'patched fixed' versions of this in the past.

From memory I'm aware (or was) the item in Forgotten Abbey cannot be got at, although other erm 'faults' don't spring to mind. It was quite a while ago I fired up the CBM version of it!

Welcome @Toki!

Very nice work, especially on music! I loved the Moonlight Sonata during the demo (cool bass part 👌)

Also thanks for fixing the piano keyboard octaves display on title screen.

While playing in Eugene's lair this happened (maybe it was also in the original c64? I remember there were a couple bugs about wall collisions)
