UncleWan reacted to Jet Set Willie in Happy Chinese New Year!
Thank you, Digital Duck. 🙂 I thought to ask, as I thought it might literally mean something more than just good luck. One never knows without asking. 🙂
UncleWan, why not download the latest JSWED and give it a try someday? 🙂

I will keep my fingers crossed, UncleWan, hoping that you will indeed have the time and energy to create a new JSW game! 🙂 And I would definitely second Jet Set Willie's suggestion of using JSWED - unless you're into coding and prefer to code your own game from scratch, it's a great and easy-to-use tool for creating MM and JSW games.

thank you, danny😀In fact, I have always had plans to design JSW for spectrum Unfortunately, due to time and technological limitations, this idea has not yet been realized. I previously created a version using Dan Richardson's PC JSW II editor, but the editor has many limitations and cannot be called a true JSWmod But I believe I will have time to realize this idea.

Thank you! Happy New Year and the year of the snake to you, too! 😊 I didn´t have a thought what snake related I could draw, but luckily you saved me with your Great picture, thanks. 😉
By the way, what there exactly reads in chinese? My chinese is a bit rusty... (cough) 😄

It's the character 福 (fu), which is usually translated as "good luck" or "good fortune", you'll find it on nearly every Chinese New Year decoration.

hello!
I think there is a high possibility that Japanese publishers will change the difficulty level.
In order to cater to domestic players, publishers often modify games, for example, Super Mario Bros. 2 from Japan became Super Mario USA in the United States, which is a completely different game. It is said that this is because Nintendo's US division believes that the original version is too difficult.
Perhaps everyone knows these things, I hope you won't find me verbose😄 -

I remember this with "Outrun"
The original home market Japanese version had the tracks in a different order and I also think the game was slightly harder even with the dip switches set for easy.
That version is not too easy to find but it is around, actually although off topic there's an improved version released a few years ago (denied you have to build it apparently, I did try it once it worked) which has a working demo mode (in freeplay) and various options such as mph/kph , score saving and (the reason for mentioning) the option to switch to the original track layout.

manic miner?good game .l even write a "Baidu Baike"(because China has not wikipedia,we use Baidu Baike as instead.)about the MM!

Thank you Spider😊, I had a lot to say, but I ended up deleting them. The bottom line is: I think my difficulties are nothing compared to what I found here. It's nice to have like-minded people. -

I've been wondering about this tune for a long time, so thank you for your answer. And while it would be a shame not to get to this remake, it's a testament to itself that there's still plenty of room for innovation and life in JSW. Thumbs up again for your remake!😁

Addendum - I wrote the cpc version of Jet Set Willy
The Title music is Moonlight Sonata and was writen by Beethoven in 1801. So slightly before Mr Wetheril came along.
The in game short tune is by Mr Wetheril.

@UncleWan
Hi! I grew up with the MSX version of Jet Set Willy 2 - which used the same music as the Amstrad version. For the remake I arranged/composed 24 different variations on the music which cross-fade depending on which room you are in / what state the game is in. There are a few cheeky nods to other games / franchises in there for a bit of fun.
That piece was originally composed by Steve Wetherill who worked on the CPC version. He kindly gave me his blessing to rearrange it and include it in the remake.
There's no way to download it. I suppose I could make a longer edit of certain variations. Might be an interesting project in itself!

Welcome manic986!
Using a visual (drag and drop) language like Scratch for a MM remake is not ideal, but it looks like you have managed to navigate around any limitations very well. Fantastic job! Looking forward to seeing the final project, and what comes next... 😀

What a wonderful JSW remake, what creative ideas and good visuals! Another thing that caught my attention is that you seem to use the Amstrad cpc version of JSW's music (it sounds atmospheric and I really like it), is there any way to download that track? Or is it just a reworking of an existing piece? (Just like the C64 version)

UncleWan reacted to jetsetdanny in 'Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy' Copyrights
This leads to some surreal scenarios. People designing free MM/JSW games and releasing them clandestinely, masking their IPs, etc. - not to make any profit, but at the same time to remain anonymous and free from possible prosecution. The alleged copyright holders chasing them relentlessly, following their digital fingerprints, etc.
The former living in fear, lurking in the MM/JSW underground, suffering from PTSD, but still determined to carry on their sacred mission of making new MM/JSW games and offering them freely to the whole world. The latter wasting their time and resources on persecuting poor souls who have only poured some financial resources into their endeavours (such as finding slightly expensive ways of purchasing GameMaker licenses anonymously), never made any profit...
What a world to face! I hope it's just a figment of my sick imagination 😆

Hi UncleWan, welcome to the forum! 🙂 It's great that you've found this place, been able to overcome all the technical difficulties and can now post here.
I find it amazing that you like MM and JSW while you first saw JSW only about 3 years ago. This actually gives me hope that some people in the future, long after our time, will still like the Willy games, which of course will be to them like perhaps us reading ancient literature or something.
I've had a look at your Baidu page. Interestingly, when the page is translated automatically from Chinese to English, the game's name becomes "Crazy Miner". That's an interesting twist on the title 😉 .
So thanks again for joining the forum and we look forward to the (unexpected, to be honest, while positively exciting) feedback and input from China!
