Spider
I was about to post a very short 'change' piece of text but I see I'm late, I might as well post it anyway: Press '1' on the title screen and lower left you'll see it cycle through the four modes. Fixed by play = The MM caverns will always be entered in their original order, regardless of which Portal you choose Fixed by room = Each MM cavern is "locked" to a specific JSW room , as in Bathroom will always have the Portal entrance for Central Cavern etc. Random by room = Any Portal in any room could take you anywhere. Random by play = Entering a Portal could take you to any cavern, they won't be in any normal ordering, for instance you could jump into the Portal in Bathroom in one game and find Cold Room etc. I can't recall if they are randomized again on a new game. I should check, sorry. *** Note I've not (I did think about this) wrote a list for which room = which cavern for the fixed by room modes. I could probably do it without playing thinking about it a bit more. jetsetdanny
jetsetdanny
Thank you, Norman Sword and Spider, for your replies - they are very helpful! 🙂 I have so far recorded Manic Jet Set Willy V2 played at the slowest speed with the "fixed MM order". Since I'm planning to record three walkthroughs of the game at varying speeds, I will record the medium-speed walkthrough with the "set by room" option, to introduce some variety, and then I will record the full-speed walkthrough with the "fixed MM order" again. As for Manic Jet Set Willy V3, I will probably record three speed versions again, each with a different play mode as far as MM rooms are concerned, and miss one MM room mode. I'm not sure I will be able to force myself to record four walkthroughs at different speeds with four MM room modes, it seems too much. I'll see how I feel about it when the times comes for it. Thanks again for your assistance! 👍 Spider
IRF
So the only difference between modes 3 and 4 is 'behind the scenes' - the order of caverns to be encountered is determined (shuffled) at the start of the game, or else they are randomly selected as the game proceeds. But from the player's perspective, they are identical. (Although I suppose in the former case, the random order must be listed at some memory addresses, so a hacker could PEEK in advance (if they knew the right address) and find out which cavern will come up next? jetsetdanny

The random game modes can be treated as just one mode. 2 hours ago, IRF said: So the only difference between modes 3 and 4 is 'behind the scenes' - the order of caverns to be encountered is determined (shuffled) at the start of the game, or else they are randomly selected as the game proceeds. In case of v. 3, each speed mode will also present a different order of MM caverns (the third one being the random one). I am currently working on v. 2 video, if all goes well I will upload it to the JSW Central later tonight (I've got a few hours left since I'm in the western hemisphere right now 😉 ).
