    C16 Version

The C16 (tape) version. It takes about seven minutes to load. The following things were immediately noted: 1. There is no loading screen, just a screen showing you the keys, then the game loads. I guess this is the loading screen. 2. There is very little sound, a tiny noise when collecting an object or upon loss of life. 3. The colours are not too distant to the C64 version (although there are less of them) 4. There is no 'boot' game over message, upon loss of the last life the game just instantly restarts in the Central Cavern. On with a few pictures :) although I only managed a few screens unfortunately: Loading Screen In Game Screens:
  2. Complied from various sources. :) The official four Software Projects pokes: 60231,0 (Remove an extra fire object from the Conservatory Roof) 59901,82 (Fixes the 'Attic Bug' arrow) 42183,11 (Moves the invisible item from the First Landing to The Hall) 56876,4 (Changes a earth cell in the Banyan Tree to a water cell so the tree is climbable) Infinite lives 35899,0 Remove Collision detection (walk through monsters in effect) 37982,0 37994,0 Immunity to fire objects (use with care but works well) 38447,201 Fall any height (new improved poke, does not effect 'fall' sound effect) 36578,16 WRITETYPER on 34275,10 Immunity to arrows 37505,24 Auto collect objects 37874,0 Remove most monsters (can remove ropes though, so not that helpful) 35123,0 Start room number 34795, X (X being 0 to 60) Keypad Bypass 34480,195 34481,202 34482,135 Starting Lives (do not set too high) 34785, X

We are pleased to release a mildly updated Spectrum version of Manic Miner. 1. The new loading screen I put together here has been used. 2. The code was again assembled using a 'real' speedlock loader for both its intended use (on a real machine) and for tape loading fanatics too. This is not intended as any form of 'protection' it is simply to cut down loading time from approx 3m15s to 2m30s. :) Only the game code is loaded rather than an emulator 'built' one as that would load all the memory which is not needed. 3. The game code was based on the Software Projects release rather than the more common Bug-Byte one, the reason for this was simply as the Software Projects release was later so it made more sense to base it on the 'last' code as such. 4. The 'typewriter' cheat was removed. The Software Projects version was "typewriter" instead of "6031769" 5. To make the game a bit more initially friendly, Willy starts with seven lives instead of three however: 6. There is no bonus life awarded every 10,000 points any more. 7. Minor detail: The scrolling message was slowed down a fraction so its more readable. 8. Minor detail: The scrolling message was altered very slightly to correct a few concerns: In essence the changes are to capitalisation, spacing and the 'forgotten' pause keys. Enjoy. :) Note: Load in 48K mode

    Jsw Videos

Welcome! :) thank you for the nice comment, appreciated. Although there's a fair few JSW related sites around the information is quite scattered and some sites are no longer with us needing a trip to the internetarchive to try to view them. The video is quite good. Plugs are fine, If you have a JSW/MM site or section please stick a new topic into the 'Links' forum if you want. :)

    Pc Version

Ah yes I remember playing that a while back when there were quite a few people online, it was quite fun to have multiple games. :)
  6. Ah yes I remember trying that a few versions ago I think. :) It was quite fun when there were a lot of people playing. :D
  7. The Atari 400/800 Version, released by Tynesoft. This needs a bit more work at some point, I had a bit of trouble finding an emulator that would take a cassette image (all I had) I understand there's a "2007" version which is based on the Spectrum version however the screenshots seen below are the original. It does not play very well at all unfortunately. This could be an emulator issue (hence the need for a disk image of it really) so either an immunity cheat is required or a better emulator / image as the collision detection seems to be quite a way off. 8. I've not really been a great fan of newsgroups in general, I've not looked at their setup I may take a gander at it now out of curiousity and compare it to others etc. The only issue I tend to have with 'hosted' things is the potential for loss of data and companies usual policies of not providing you with a backup (in most cases)

Thanks for the update. :) PS, you have a PM too.
  10. If there is such a thing ? What is the best way to 'assemble' screenshots ? I have currently: A large number of screenshot image and a rough 'block map' on a piece of A4 paper just showing how they link etc I thought I could just use a massive blank canvas size and then paste and move each image into its proper place, if I work on it reduced size it would be manageable, although I think I may of overlooked the obvious somehow. Any thoughts please ? :)
  11. A few pictures from an initial assessment of this version. The conversion itself was done by Cameron Else who also did the Manic Miner conversion. The game features the 'Padlock' protection. The 'start' key has been changed from Enter to Space too. The controls are different but still reasonably logical in that its alternating on the middle row (A to L) for left / right with shift for jump. Without sound the lives are still animated too. The 'Attic Bug' collection of issues appears to have been rectified as well as a few other things, you'll see by examining the screenshots. In brief, as I may of missed things just a general play with it for a while: 1. The 'impossible' object in the First Landing is still there but positioned just above the Monks head on the right hand side of the screen. 2. The earth cell in the Banyan Tree has been changed to water (Software Projects 'official' fix for the Spectrum version) 3. One fire block has been removed from the Conservatory Roof so its just possible to get all four items here (again, the 'official' fix) 4. The attic itself features two arrows as was originally intended, I note most 'fixes' tend remove either one or both of these. 5. The 'double object' in The Beach is still there however it does show two objects here, the second one a couple of blocks further down the beach. 6. There's no conveyor in 'I'm sure I've seen this before' 7. The up and down exits in Rescue Esmeralda still take you to the Emergency Generator / Ballroom. 8. The ramp in The Security Guard seems impossible to jump through for a quick suicide trip to Entrance To Hades. 9. The game sprite timing seems quite good as you can duplicate the Spectrum 'walkthrough' the kitchens screens without stopping and not running into a nastie. 10. The object in The Swimming Pool is in the same place as the Spectrum and other versions ie left side but its not 'auto collected' as there's no white ink on the background or the code is different. Difficult to say at this stage. On with some screenshots: Keypad 'Lock' and Joystick Option: Title: Game Over! In Game Screens:

Jonathan, can you shed any light on the JSW2 variations please ? :) I've always just assumed (as in my mind it kind of made some logical sense) that the 'cut down' one was originally a 'tape only' offering and the 'extended' one that loads sections from floppy as you progress was the 'floppy only' version. The latter seems to mirror the Amstrad / Spectrum versions whereas the 'tape' version has very few JSW rooms and seems to mainly concentrate on squeezing the 'outer space' rooms in. I note from your site you call it the extended version. As far as I'm aware there was no immunity cheat for the extended version although I do have a hastily cobbled 'immunity' .ssd for this somewhere on one external hdd. Useful for easy mapping. EDIT... The JSW maps are currently broken, server migration ?
  13. Thank you! :) I did suspect that, the other versions I have to hand (not all posted just yet) appear the same Tatung and Z88 ( ! ) versions. What browser are you using ? Generally you can either: 1. Click the URL button just under the size dropdown and paste a URL in or 2. Paste or type it in, if its does not link simply highlight the text and then click the link button to type in the URL. or 3. Advanced users. Click the top left button on the editor to turn all the 'friendly' features off. "raw mode" in effect. Note switching between them while editing can have odd effects. I do use this quite a bit though as I'm used to typing in code. The editor is better than it was however. I do have thoughts on this.
  14. A few pics from this version. I do have JSW1 'in progress' and am hunting for JSW2 I've seen it floating around so it will no doubt be found soon. I had a bit of trouble getting this to run as I had to use the MESS emulator for it, the game image itself is fine just odd emulator issues it seems. Anyway it looks and plays identically to the Spectrum version really, I'd stick my neck out and say its closer to the Spectrum version than the Amstrad version is. Interestingly it has the Software Projects 'Padlock' on it (thinking about it so does the BBC Micro version of MM as well) The conversion itself was done by Cameron Else who also did the JSW conversion too. There is not really a lot else to add, the lives counter remains animated if the sound is turned off and there's a slight colour variation in the title screen 'keyboard' otherwise its the same. The screenshots of the levels are from the demo version. Keypad: Title: Game Over! On with the levels themselves:

  16. Thank you for posting. :) I was quite surprised to read (and did a cursory search around) that there were no native versions of either of these games which seems quite odd really given they were available for such a large variety of platforms. hmm  Although I've not registered there yet, I have had a reasonable read and it seems quite a helpful and friendly community.
  17. Thank you. :) Fixed the link as it was the JSW one for some reason.

Yes its pretty good to say the least. :) I had a quick PM earlier asking about it and he said it was fine to post / quote etc as needed anyway.

    Dragon 32 Version

Thanks. Was not aware of the 'cheat' will be quite helpful.
  22. That looks not far from the 'tape' B version in a way. Did they have separate editions ie Tape and Disc (plus expansion) ? The 'B' tape version contains nearly all the space rooms but the mansion is very severely chopped down to do this. 'Ethel The Aardvark' also only seen in the 'tape' B version makes me think this is the case. :)

    Pc Version

Thanks! :) I remember that, I may still have it floating around somewhere. Do you recall the 'other' PC version by Craig (roswell or rothwell?) that had a kind of path or 'tree' screen and you had to pick the game to play from there. It was several games in one. I do not have that anymore it seems. It really needed a cheat mode though.
